Childhood

Memories, oh memories
How you flood my soul with pain
Like a river overflowing its banks
You wash over me again furthermore.

Some memories are endearing and tender
Bringing a smile to my face
While others are sore and bitter
Leaving only sorrow and disgrace.

I cling to the happy memories
As they bring me a wink of truce
But the unbearable ones haunt me
Never authorize my soul to release.

Oh memories, how you haunt me
Bringing both exhilaration and grieve
Yet I cannot let you go
For you are a part of my tomorrow.

So I hold onto you tightly
In the depths of my heart and mind
For you are my past and my present
And the future I expect to find.
