National consumer Day
On 24 December 1986 , President gave its assent to the consumer protection Act 1986. From that day onwards India started to celebrate 24 December as National consumer Day.
Historic moment happened on 24 December , great milestone was walked by Indian for consumer awareness and rights. This day shapes the opportunity for the individual to aware themselves and others about consumers right and responsibilities.
Department of consumer Affairs is in-charge of consumer rights and celebrates National consumer Day each year and this year on Sunday of 2023 December 24 is celebrated. The focus of this year is on leveraging technology usage for consumer protection and grievances redressal.
Union minister Piyush Goyal has pointed the fact that customer satisfaction is important step towards development of India. Today marks the launch of the e- Jagriti portal, vc facility for NCDRC, drone testing in NTH, National consumer helpline 2.0 now available in 17 languages. These things exemplify the Indian government efforts towards building strong consumer test. As stated by him on the praise for the consumer department.
Piyush Goyal has also pointed out the major risk the comes with the expansion of technology usage for consumer support. There is further talks on the usage of AI and consumer protection, which also includes mitigation of dark patterns, imperative for a comprehensive stakeholders discussion.
Further there is recent release of the " Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark patterns 2023 " by the department. The guidelines especially highlight 13 dark patterns with a aim to prevent and regulate manipulative practices. Which foster a fair and transparent marketplace for consumer.
