Books

"Reading maketh a complete man". So said the famous essayist Sir Francis Bacon. Yes today I would like to share with you my favourite hobby ever - Reading.

I am able to recall a dialogue from Ajab prem ki gazab kahani where Katrina says Books are man's best friend. They don't have any complaints and no demands. Another one is that Jhumpa Lahari, author for my favorite book Namesake says that books are the only sources that help one to travel without moving an inch.

To me also books are my favorite friends and since childhood say after I reached the age of six I started reading books Among books I preferred to read Fairy tales, could be the attraction of the girls of those ages and always wanted to dress like a princess for a fancy dress competition. The list of fairy tales I have read during those days are many in number beginning from Cinderella till Pinocchio, The little red riding hood, Beauty and the beast etc were under my wishlist and I remember reading them from my school library. Such a beautiful collection they were with pictures on one side and stories on the other.

Gradually when I grew up my preference changed to children's literature and I started reading Enid Blyton and Nancy Drew 's detective stories. Never at all the stories of great people doing adventures attracted me. Even Sherlock homes wasn't my interest.

Then after I completed my primary school I began reading classics where Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Roald Dahl etc gained space in my bookshelves. Until I reached my degree I never purchased a book from the store. Until then I enjoyed reading books from the library. When my elders started reading Harry Potter series those days I have just heard of the character of Mr Potter.

After years that I recognised I needed copies of my own and Harry Potter films attracted me to read the books, I chose Harry Potter as my Dissertation for my Undergraduate course and there comes up my first book from online and I became a die hard fan of Harry Potter series. Gradually I started purchasing fantasy and women oriented books among which I have Chitra Divakaruni as my first choice.

Today this era of lockdown has locked everyone inside, my books had always kept me engaged and busy with the characters and setting. I am thankful to the authors who kept my days of boredom transformed into happiness.
