A ROMANCE WHERE I FELL IN
LOVE WITH THE LAST PERSON I EXPECTED TO.
It was a scorching
sweltering day when I first saw him. He looked like he was out of a jungle
after many years. Long hair spread everywhere, unpressed shirt half tucked in,
and sweating face made him look like a hooligan. I looked at him with surprise
as he stood beside me in the bus stand, waiting for the bus. I did not realize
whether it was the hot sun that was piercing me more or his looks. I moved away
from him to avoid looking at him. The more I looked at him, the more I got
angry. As I thought about what he was, he smiled at me. I returned his smile
with a frown. He lowered his head and looked the other side.
Many things were
playing in my head. Since I had already completed my studies, there was a tremendous
force from my parents for marriage. I was asked to meet a few boys, and it was
for that purpose I was going. As I saw him, I wondered with pride in my heart,
what if the boy I would meet was like him? I smiled at myself for being so
stupid and decided that a boy like him would be the last one I would like to
marry. Drowned in my thoughts, I stood there waiting for the bus.
Suddenly, my
attention was drawn when I saw an older woman coming towards the bus stand. She
was carrying heavy weights and looked worn out. Though many were seeing her,
none paid any attention to her. I felt terrible at that granny. But as I stood
looking at her, I saw that the boy I disliked rushed to her. He greeted her and
offered to help her. He carried all her bags to the bus stand. He made her sit
on the bench, rushed, bought a water bottle, and handed it out to her. Granny
thanked and heartily blessed him. The entire scenario moved my heart, and I was
moved. The venom for the boy started neutralizing. Ignoring my ego, I smiled at
him. he was not indecent. He smiled back.
The next few days,
I always saw him in the bus stand waiting for the bus. We slowly became
friends. I asked him why he was so shabby the other day? He replied, “We all
see people in trouble, we may feel bad too, but none of us volunteer to help.
Is feeling bad at heart sufficient? We should extend our hand to help, and that
is humanity. That day I helped a laborer lift a few bags. That’s why I was
shabby.” His words hit me hard. I never realized when my heart started having a
soft corner for him. His mannerism won my heart. He coloured me in his colour,
and I started loving him immensely. Now, nothing mattered other than his
company and affection. After a few days, I proposed to him for marriage. Though
initially he was surprised, he accepted my proposal.
Looks and wealth
will slowly melt away; what always stays is the best character and mannerism.
We will be respected and loved for it, and it will eventually take place in our
hearts. It will melt even the stone hearted.
