Do you ever asked yourself
How is this Valentine's Day started?
What it's the origin?
What is Valentine's Day?
Valentine's Day is a full celebration or to simply put it, an annual festival to celebrate love, friendship and admiration. It's celebrated in honour of the 3rd Century Roman Catholic Saint, St. Valentine. Because of later reasons, it has become a crucial culture, commercial celebration of romance and love in all parts of the world.
The ORIGIN
Have you ever heard of this Person called Valentine? Who is he?
St. Valentine is a Roman Catholic Priest, who lived in Rome when Emperor Claudius II, was reigning around 2000 years ago.
At that time, Emperor Claudius II put an uncivilised law that all Soldiers should not get married in view of their service to the Country and him, to be fully dedicated their work to him. The emperor also didn't have faith in marriages and believed that single men were better off.
Father Valentine went against this law. He secretly and hidingly helped couples to get married and he blessed their married too with honour and invoke God's blessings too; to spare husbands from war. In this manner, the people loved him so much especially among soldiers and youth of those times.
When the Emperor heard of this news, he was in a rage and put Fr. Valentine into bars and even in Prison Valentine was able to cure the daughter of one soldier through God's intervention. He was martyred for this noble act on 14th February 270 A.D. Before he died, he wrote a letter for one girl who was in difficulties and problems, explaining what is Love and how to love each other on this earth.
He signed the letter,
From
Fr. Valentine
Because of this, we remember this day as his day (Valentine's Day).
Of course, in this era, Valentine's Day has become a trend when people show off their love. Forgetting that Love comes first from God, then from Family, from Parents, siblings and neighbours.
Jesus, the great Prophet has taught us that "Love each other as I have loved you with an everlasting Love." (Io 13:34).
Valentine has also been famous for his love for the children and youth and they too loved him in return. This love must come from within and pure then only we can celebrate this Valentine's Day in a meaningful manner.
Celebrate Love, celebrate Valentine's Day but don't spread wrong love and create mess afterwards because St. Valentine doesn't mean like this, he meant to help and made people understand how important love is, how important family is. How important to support one another in a family, how important for a person to find another helper in his/ her life.
Because Jesus taught us that when you love someone deeply and truly you'll even give your life for that person.
Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Feast Day
Of St. Valentine.
