Reward for the Good Work
Shravani said to Vanya,
"We are going to conduct a health awareness workshop for all the babies and their mothers. We need to talk to all the midwives in this region so that we could listen to their problems and provide all the necessary help so that they could do their work more effectively, do you know all the expectant mothers or midwives in this region as we hardly know anyone in this village!"
Vanya said to her,
"Vasudha was also a midwife who delivered many children successfully. She was like an angel for the women in her village. Everyone remembers her for her selfless work and courage."
Shravani asked her,
"Then what happened to her? Please tell me the whole story so that I can get some peace finally!"
Vanya said to her,
"Vasudha loved Jayesh but her sister Jiya, also fell in love with him. When Vasudha asked her to forget Jayesh then she threatened to kill herself.
Vasudha thought that Jiya was not serious about her threat so she didn't take it seriously.
One day, Jayesh brought the unconscious body of Jiya and said to Vasudha,
"She jumped from the cliff, I jumped after her and brought her back. Why did she jump like that, she could have even died!"
Vasudha said to him,
"I know that she is a stubborn girl. She never takes anybody's advice regarding her own life. She is my half sister from my father's second marriage. She was born with a weak heart. I promised her mother before she died that I will always fulfill her daughter's wishes except this time...when she is hell bent on marrying you, my true love!"
Jayesh was shocked to hear this. He said to Vasudha,
"Let's get married today. Then Jiya will understand the nature of our friendship and will respect our decision."
Vasudha folded her hands and said to Jayesh,
"Please marry Jiya, after all she is my sister and I can't break her heart. If something happens to her, then everyone will hold me responsible for the tragic outcome of her life. If you truly love me then please marry her, I will never forget your favour and I will be eternally grateful to you!"
Jiya was listening to their conversation but she was blinded by her own infatuation and she pretended that she was still unconscious.
After sometime, Jayesh got married to Jiya but he never felt any love for her.
Jiya was sad that her husband ignored her completely and never wanted to talk to her.
Vasudha was also sad and she didn't want to live anymore.
I said to her,
"Why are you sad? You should be happy for your sister. You are a special person and you are the best midwife in this village. Do your duty and you will be rewarded for your good work one day, after all this is life and we should do our part to the best of our abilities!"
