Justice is same for everyone
Kartik entered the room with the glasses of purple coloured sherbet. He said to Shravani, "See, what have I brought for you, sherbet made from the flowers of Rhododendrons. This is a local delicacy here, drink it and feel refreshed!"
Shravani took a sip of the sherbet and tried to search for a similar kind of taste, as she said to Kartik, "Hmmm it's yummy, I needed it so badly, you know, I was almost at the brink of a nervous breakdown or heart attack after listening to my true story!"
Radhika said to Shravani, "Let's go and help Devika, she is having labour pains and the midwife has declared that it is beyond her area of expertise, we need to find someone who can handle this!"
Vanya said to her, "Oh, no! Devika had a lot of problems during her last delivery. She almost died last time due to the complications of pregnancy. I asked her mother-in-law to take her to a well known nursing home in Somgarh. The owners of the nursing home are generous and compassionate people, but her mother-in-law said to me that they are too poor to afford the medical expenses of a child birth. Devika's family was also poor and they could not help her financially. She said that child birth is not a big issue for them as they feel that they could have as many children as they want. If something happens to a woman during childbirth then they can easily get their son remarried to another woman to do the farming work and to give birth to as many children as they want. I told her that how could she say such things for her daughter-in-law who is also a woman like her. She laughed and said to me that she herself faced such discrimination and now she is simply passing on the lessons to her next generation. I tried to tell her that she could have broken this chain of atrocities by adopting forgiveness and compassion but she simply refused to take my advice in their family matters!"
Shravani lost her cool and the refreshing sherbet was not enough to stop her outburst, "What is the meaning of all this? Why are women treated like cattles? If they can't bear an offspring, a male heir, ten male children, then they can be easily replaced by someone else. Why this kind of mindset is there? Why can't people respect women and her dreams, desires and even her right to choose what is good for her or not?"
Vanya said to her, "People don't want their daughters to become educated because they feel that then they will have a mind of their own and they will have their own voice to fight against the injustice and discrimination in the name of age old tradition and norms of the society. You can answer this question in a right manner, so tell me, in cities the girls are educated, they are working, still are they not harassed by their husbands, in laws or society which judges them callously?"
Shravani stood up to go with Radhika, as she answered to Vanya, "Yes, women are tormented, but the education has given them a weapon to fight against the demons disguised in the the form of humans, the weapon of legal aid and justice which is same for everyone!"
