What come first

36. What Comes First

For those who think that there is wealth without love, you may wish to reconsider your position. There are so many aspects to achieving success that you may think that the accumulation of wealth is the best of the achievement cycle.

To amass a large fortune, if you believe what you see in movies, seems to mean that you forego any aspects of love because how can you obtain a fortune if you are not shrewd and calculating and unafraid to roll over others who stand in your way.

I would disagree with this view not because there is no truth to how some people use and abuse others but because I have seen the opposite. Some people have amassed great wealth because they first feel love towards their fellow man and start businesses that help meet their spiritual needs, or growth needs. For example, people like Dale Carnegie, Anthony Robbins and other famous people who devoted their talents and lives to help other people move forward in all aspects of their life.

The best strategy it could be argued is to combine a desire to help others and then to build a business around that desire.

Several years ago, I knew a man who demonstrated the opposite in his business relationships and in the long run not only lost his wealth but his respect and ended up being sentenced for fraud. He was a man who pretended to care for the well being of athletes who gave him their trust in protecting their rights. He was a man of stature for many years, often admired and talked about as a true model of a caring businessperson. All he saw instead was an opportunity to exploit, to deceive, and to live the high life.

Now, the other argument that talks about wealth is that if you love, if your personal philosophy is to help others whenever you can to do no harm intentionally, there is another amassed wealth. And, that wealth is not measured in dollar and cents but, instead, is measured in caring, kindness , and the appreciation and admiration of others who you meet and deal with in everyday life.

It is not their intention to build a huge ban account, or live in the biggest mansion, or to flaunt their success. These are the quiet millionaires of life; millionaires in a fortune that is not affected by the ups and downs of the stock market or the cost of worldwide commodities.

What kind of wealth would you rather amass?
